Catcha Group has announced the launch of Kuala Lumpur Internet City (KLIC). Catcha Group is the main driver and the master developer of KLIC, which will be the premier digital hub of the world's first Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) which was launched by Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, together with Jack Ma, founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group. Catcha Group is one of the strategic partners of DFTZ, alongside Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Alibaba Group.

To be located in Bandar Malaysia, KLIC is aimed to encompass 5 million square feet built over a 15-year period with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of around RM5B (USD$1.13B). The development aims to house at least 1,000 internet-related companies as tenants and become a hub for over 25,000 tech professionals. KLIC is intended to be one of the world's largest purpose-built digital hub for global tech giants from China, the US and other major countries around the world targeting Southeast Asia, as well as regional tech leaders and local startups.

The vision for KLIC is to be the epicentre of Southeast Asia's internet economy, one of the fastest growing in the world. It will comprise of key players within the tech ecosystem facilitating end-to-end support, networking and knowledge-sharing to drive innovation in the internet economy and the e-commerce industry. KLIC will combine best-in-class infrastructure, a thriving business environment and diverse talent pool with a focus on education, community, wellness and lifestyle to create a vibrant urban environment tailored to the wants and needs of its tenants. Creative design elements, eco-friendly buildings, bike paths, large open spaces for community activities, as well as fitness and health facilities will prominently feature throughout the development.

At the launch of DFTZ today, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia said, "A digital economy, powered by the internet, is pivotal in driving the overall Digital Economy agenda, where its contribution to the country's growth is becoming more significant."
